The Passage des Panoramas and the restaurant Canard et Champagne

Paris had about thirty passages. The passage is a Parisian concept that was born at the end of the 18th century but developed particularly during the 19th century. Today, Paris has 24 passages, 18 of which are classified as historical monuments and 10 are concentrated in the 2nd arrondissement.

The Passage des Panoramas is one of the most beautiful in Paris. We can also mention the passage of the Grand Cerf, the Galerie Vivienne, the passage Verdeau, all in the 2nd district.

If you wish to discover them, we suggest a walk of 1h30 to 2h00 : See the itinerary.

The Passage des Panoramas

The Passage des Panoramas is our favorite. It is one of the oldest (1799) and most typical. The offer of restaurants and stores is particularly interesting: The food trades, art craftsmen, stamps and old postcards with some beautiful facades. While walking through the passage, one has the impression to cross the time.

5 offers of restoration are to be announced:

  • Canard and Champagne that we will detail and have tested for you.
  • Racines, installed in the premises of a former printing house. Italian cuisine rooted in the Transalpine soil
  • Marcore, which received a Michelin plate. A chic universe where we offer a gourmet lunch at an affordable price.
  • Caffé Stern: Housed in the former store of the engraver Stern. Very chic, refined universe signed Philippe Stark. Trendy but with an Italian menu at high prices (menu around 50€-90€)
  • Adar: Offers Mediterranean cuisine with formulas and mezzes at tight prices.

Canard et Champagne

To put it short, here it is good and not very expensive.

The setting? It’s an old chocolate factory, founded in 1818 by François Marquis, then an illustrious chocolatier who worked at this very popular address during the Belle Époque.

The decor is very neat. We are seated on stools. The pretty Bertoia stools have been replaced by a model perhaps more comfortable.

The menu is short. Mostly duck, French, exclusively free-range and grain-fed. Foie gras, of course Terrine of duck, but also magret, parmentier, confit of duck with, for lunch, a service 3 dishes service announced at 21€. Be careful, not all the starters are included in this formula whose presentation on the menu can be confusing.

The preparations are meticulous, the dressings minimalist. Taste above all.

We start with a duck and bell pepper terrine, quite honest, not too fatty. It is accompanied by a very fresh whole meal bread, although not very crunchy.

We are quite suspicious of hamburgers, often overused, but here, we know that it is famous. We have a chopped and reconstituted duck steak, well grilled and served with Cheddar and cucumber in a soft and very slightly sweet bread. Tasted with homemade pommes allumettes and a Château Greysac, cuvée Canard and Champagne served by the glass, very tannic and powerful. The whole is quite attractive and personal. It is simple and very successful.

Finally, we finish with a pastry of an unexpected level that we rate 10/10. It is a lemon tart « reversed ». The shortbread pastry is sprinkled on a custarf and a lemon ice cream decorated with a meringue. It is simple but very very good.

The room is a bit noisy because we want they wanted to preserve the period ceiling, so no soundproofing panel. If you are sensitive to noise, come at the beginning of the service.

It will be necessary to reserve. The address is popular.
